Planting Guide Summary

SPACING

  • 22" - 30" depending on variety - see planting guide for details
  • 8' - 10' between rows
  • Planting depth 1" - 2" deeper than nursery soil line
  • Be sure roots are covered with 2" of soil

WATERING

  • Soak plants 2 hours in a pail of water using Agri-Gel prior to planting
  • Water thoroughly after planting
  • Maintain good soil moisture until plants are well established
  • Maintain good moisture throughout the season (1" - 2" rainfall or equivalent each week)

WEED CONTROL

  • Prepare your planting site prior to planting to minimize weed pressure
  • Raspberries may be planted through black plastic for weed control the establishment year; or use an organic straw mulch
  • Remove weeds during the growing season

FERTILIZATION

  • Mix a complete fertilizer into your sil prior to planting
  • Add supplementary fertilizer in July to maximize growth

TISSUE CULTURE PLUG PLANTS

Some raspberry varieties are sold as tissue culture plugs.

Special Considerations :

  • Plant so the top of the plug is covered with 1/2 inch of soil
  • Maintain good soil moisture during establishment
  • Foliar spray green leaves weekly during the establishment period of three weeks
