Q--
I plan on growing strawberrys in hydro, but I'm running into trouble picking the proper type of plant. I have June-bearing plants, but they need a chilling period to produce flower buds. I'd like to avoid this as I have had no success chilling them. I have ever-bearing plants too, but theee plants only produce small berries like the wild or alpine type. There are day-neutral types as well but I know little about them. Can anyone advise me on varieties to use and what needs to be done for fruit development.
I know California produces berries and I assume there would be no chilling process since it is warm there year round, would a variety grown in California be the best to use for indoor hydroponics?

The problems you are having are probably related to pollenation and nutrient levels. The flowers can be self-pollenating in the out doors. In side you will have to help by tapping each flower or using a fine paint brush to get the pollen into the pistols.
I would recommend a day-neutral or ever-bearing variety. Seascape has the potential for the biggest berry with good flavor. Please see the following link for all of our day-neutral varieties. Nate Nourse
