I have a couple different types of strawberries.  One of them is an everbearing strawberrynot sure what kind that we have had for a few years and one is Ogalla everbearing strawberries, just planted this last year.  On the first type we have had these little black bugs maybe a 1/4 inch long that bore into the berries and eat them and they look like they are good berries, but they are all mushy.  On our new Ogalla berries, we have big beautiful berries, but something is eating them and it it leaves a little trail on the outside where it has eaten.  My husband thought birds, but it is usually on the underside and it looks like they are leaving a path where they have eaten.  Do you have any idea what these pests might be?  What can I put on my berries to get rid of these pests??

You have Picnic Beetles or Sap Beetles and Slugs. The Sap Beetles are controled by picking and removing all ripe and rotten berries. We sell an organic snail killer called Sluggo. You can see it at the following link.

Thank you for the response.  I have sap beetles for sure. That is what I diagnosed form my research, but couldn't find a picture.  The picture is exactly what they look like. We don't have slugs here in Eastern Oregon, too dry, however the eating on the Ogalla's looks alot like a slug path without the slime.  I do have some sluggo and was going to put that out after I pick today.  Is there anything else at all to do about Sap beetles besides keeping the berries picked??

Thanks for your help!
