Local wind gusts today up to 50 mph caused about 5-7 percent of the Autumn Britten primocanes to break at crown level.  The primocanes are about 3 feet tall and interestingly no Caroline primocanes where lost.

Breakage of new canes usually indicates the plants were not mowed low enough in the spring. We go thru our patch and remove every stub that sticks out. You can see this if the branch has broken off at the stub. If the plants are entirely new shoots, dig down in the soil to see if there could be grubs or cane borers.
Please see the following link for these pests. http://www.hort.cornell.edu/department/faculty/pritts/BerryDoc/raspberry/caneslaterals/Raspwinterinjury.htm
Good luck and have a great summer!

The "broken" canes do have a clean break at the butt but I am still of the opinion that the variety is susceptable to wind damage.  My strongest evidence is that the same damage did not occur in the Caroline canes.  These Everbearing varieties are managed for fall berries therefore all the canes are cut at ground level by hand with a lopping shear about Dec 1 (St. Paul/Mpls, MN region).  This does not appear to be a major year for grub (June bug) infestation and we have not noticed any in our home gardens this year.  While each summer a few canes (3-5) show Crown Bore fly(?) damage with holes ringing the cane about 8 inches from cane tip and resulting tip wilt, these canes are removed at the crown after the infestation is noted.  Let me add that the Autumn Britten canes are also more prone to tipping with the result that some canes have to be supported by tying them upright to trellis wires.
